If you are a photographer who wants to get your work seen, then YEARBOOK is for you. A group exhibition for everyone, a publication for selected works, and awards from some of our favourite industry partners. And did we mention, there’s no set entry fee? We want to make sure this opportunity is open to everyone, no matter what their financial situation.
YEARBOOK was launched in 2020 as an answer to all the cancelled graduate shows, and uncertainty about when events of that size and nature would be able to resume. We at Shutter Hub thought about what these shows mean for those involved, and what they were missing by not having them. In many ways they echo the ethos of Shutter Hub exhibitions – group shows of work by many varied photographers, promoted to the photography world, attended by industry experts, other photographers’ networks and potential employers. We decided to do what we could to have a positive impact for everyone, and not just for graduates. It was a huge success, with photographers gaining valuable new connections, opportunities and a real sense of community – it was something special to be part of, together!
We’re really pleased to announce this year’s YEARBOOK Awards:

Photolucida YEARBOOK AWARD 2021
One photographer will be selected by Audra Osborne from Photolucida to receive a virtual portfolio review and entry to Critical Mass 2022.
Photolucida is an arts nonprofit based in Portland, Oregon. Our mission is to provide platforms that expand, inspire, educate and connect the regional, national, and international photography community.
Photolucida does two primary things to support and promote the work of emerging and mid-career photographers: Annually, we open Critical Mass – an online call for entry that makes connections within the photography community. Photographers at any level, from anywhere in the world, submit a portfolio of 10 images. Through a pre-screening process, the field is narrowed to a group of 200 finalists who go on to have their work viewed and voted on by over 200 esteemed international photography professionals. Biennially, we host the Photolucida Portfolio Reviews where an international set of photographers and reviewers gather in Portland, Oregon for a five-day celebration of photography that includes lectures, workshops, exhibitions and, of course, intensive portfolio reviews. Reviewers are selected for their experience, involvement, and commitment to advancing the work of emerging and mid-career artists. Both programs are intended to promote the culture of photography locally, nationally, and internationally.
