Award winning British artist Ellie Laycock’s photographic practice explores the urban environment and it’s impact on it’s residents, ideas of power and control, politics and the passage of time. Her work often incorporates elements of historical research and, due to her original training as a fine art sculptor, sometimes 3d objects.
Ellie was awarded first place in Architecture by the New York Center For Photographic Art, has received the Stanley Picker Travel Scholarship award, was shortlisted for the AOP awards and her youth photography project ‘Upshotz’ won the 02 Its Your Community award. Her recent solo show at Photofusion ‘1500 Days of Gentrification’ used photographs taken 1500 days apart to show the hyper-gentrification taking place in her native Brixton.
She is currently the artist in residence at Lambeth Town Hall Art Programme and selected artist for the People and Places Commission (Arts Council England/ Lambeth/ Photofusion/ 3Space). Ellie lives and works in London.
