Sat at a Cafe in Lisbon, planning the day, a quick smoke to clear my head

The crashing waves gave me a sense of calm

We stood, enjoying the sunset, the wet sand between our toes while the waves of Nazare crashed around us

Thoughts are our own

I took a deep breath and enjoyed the strong smell of ocean air and tea leaves.

We paddled through the calm water towards the distant, fog covered ridge

I could feel the sun burning the skin on my shoulders as I dried off amongst the black stone and crashing waves

The air was cold as I walked down the car lined street. Deep in thought, reflecting on why I didn't just drive.

Downtown Calgary, on a mild January morning.

Ben Conley

Hey, I’m a born and raised Calgary, Canada photographer. For as long as I can remember I’ve made photos and made videos. I have long struggled with the “why” aspect of my art. Over the last year or so, I’ve found the link between my early work, and my current work. I am vastly interested in the human experience, and telling the stories of others (Even though they’re made up). With every photo I make, I try to frame it from the perspective of the subject. A person on the street? Where are they going? Why are they going there? What drives them?
