Due to the large number of images we received we have to limit the amount of images we are able to display, but every photographer has one image included. A black-headed gull glides on its final approach at dusk as it prepares to swoop and snatch a chip from the outstretched hand of a man on Southsea beach in Hampshire. The Wightlink ferry from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight can be seen in the distance. It was a scene of utter chaos as the noisy flock of gulls manically competed for food, fluttering, diving, soaring and squawking just above my head. The drama was heightened by the sudden appearance of a very rare asperitas cloud formation, with the wave like pattern echoing the ripples of the sea below.
This is a special photograph, one which brings together people, the beach, the sea and the wildlife, where you can almost smell the scent of vinegar on the chip mingled with the salt of the sea.

An additional 30,000 people gather to watch the spectacle of horse trading, and bathing of humans and animals in the River Eden. Appleby is the largest fair of its kind in Europe.
