We are thrilled to congratulate Shutter Hub member, Margaret Mitchell on being selected as a shortlisted photographer for the 2018 Sony World Photography Awards.
Margaret’s work from her series ‘In This Place’ was selected from a record-breaking number of submissions. The series revisits her late sister’s children and traces a narrative of their lives within a housing estate in central Scotland, raising questions about family and home, connections and place, touching on issues of social and personal inertia.
Margaret said, “I am really excited to be on the shortlist in the Contemporary Issues category for the Sony World Photography Awards. It is a real honour on a professional level to have the work recognised but it also goes a little deeper for me personally. This is work that is very close to my heart working with my own family members and their story around issues of opportunity and environment.”
The prestigious Sony World Photography Awards attracted over 320,000 submissions this year for anonymous consideration by acclaimed industry professional judges. The overall winners in each category will be announced at the Awards ceremony in London on April 19, and all shortlisted and winning images will be exhibited as part of the 2018 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London from 20th April until 6th May 2018. Exhbition tickets are available at www.worldphoto.org/2018exhibition
