(Return) To The Sea

© Brent Jones

In 2023, we launched To The Sea, a year-long exhibition on the French coast celebrating all of our visions of the sea. The exhibition featured over 400 images by 120 photographers from around the world. The exhibition has been such a pleasure that we’re re-exploring the theme with our next exhibition in the same location: (Return) To The Sea.

You’re invited to submit your work and join us in celebrating the sea. The  exhibition will encompass multiple interpretations of the sea – environmental, actual or emotional. This call is open to creative interpretation – take the theme and go with it, wherever the tide takes you.

An ode to the ocean, something for the sea.

The exhibition will run for a year, and will be on show 24/7 at the outdoor exhibition site in the centre of St Gilles Croix de Vie, an area that attracts thousands of visitors day and night throughout the seasons, making the exhibition accessible to all. We aim to showcase hundreds of images in this exhibition, and in the run up to the exhibition we’ll be sharing inspirational entries across our social media.

Our relationship with the town of St Gilles Croix de Vie began all the way back in 2018, when we were invited to take an exhibition to Festival Pil’Ours, it was called Because We Can! and it went down a storm. Popping up outside the popular Les Alizes venue, we returned year on year with Time to Think and Your Body Belongs to You, exhibitions that celebrated the work of non-binary and female photographers. When the festival came to an end, we weren’t going to let that break our connection to the beautiful seaside town – we went back, To The Sea.

The exhibition will run from October 2024 – October 2025. (exact dates to be confirmed)

Deadline for entries: 25 July 2024 (5pm BST)

Each entrant can submit up to 12 images. These can be from a series or individual images.

Entry fees: £8 per image

Once you’ve entered there are no further fees – if your work is selected we’ll print, promote, deliver and install everything. These conditions of entry allow exhibitors to save on print, framing and courier fees, which we hope encourages wider participation in our international exhibitions.

File Upload

Maximum file size: 10MB

Please upload a .jpg file 6x4in at 300dpi. All submitted files must be named with the photographer's name and title of work e.g. david_hasselhoff_best_photograph_ever_ever.jpg It is important that this is correct as the file may be used to caption your image in some circumstances, and it may be how we will let you know which images have been accepted. To make your image accessible to more people, including those who are blind or visually impaired, please describe your image - we will add this as Alt text. This should be a description of what is shown in the image for those who are unable to see it, rather than an explanation of process or context, e.g. 'Photograph of a red car parked in the middle of a field of grass, with a pigeon flying in the blue sky overhead'.
