Steve Gallagher
I was born in the American Midwest and studied Visual Design and Photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). After working in fashion photography in Chicago, Miami and New York, I began to apply my skills to graphic design and built a successful career in advertising and digital design. I moved to London with my family in 2002, where I set up my own graphic design business. I relocated to Worthing in 2018, where my love of photography was reignited by the beauty of the Sussex Downs and the ever-changing nature of the Worthing shoreline and its seas. I produce richly detailed and unique fine art studies of my local environment.
The magic of photography allows me to show the people viewing my artwork a slice of time. A magical moment. Whether this is a seascape or the petals of a flower. I often think of a quote I love from Diane Arbus. She states, ‘I really believe there are things nobody would see if I didn’t photograph them’.
I attempt to engage the viewer with the experience of seeing what I’m seeing by slowing down and looking closer at the details.
