Nicola Jayne Maskrey
I am interested in the perceived dichotomy between the transient and the permanent and the fluidity of the experiential relationship with these states. I’m drawn to vegetation and natural elements as an expression of this, and in connection to place.
Based in photography, I enjoy working with a broad range of analogue and digital approaches including alternative and experimental techniques to create “a unique mood and energy” that tracks my physical and emotional experience both in process and subject matter. My work is intended for print, publication, and projection.
Born in Sheffield, UK I currently live in London, UK. I hold a BA (Hons) Fine Art (Combined and Media Arts) from Sheffield Hallam University, and an HNC in Photography from City of Westminster College. In 2013 I won the Islington Exhibits Artists Awards, and have since been Awarded Honourable Mentions in the Mobile Photography Awards (2014), iPhone Photography Awards (2015) and IPA One Shot Award (2015). I was also awarded finalist in 4 categories of the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers (2015), and shortlisted for Life Framer edition II (2015). In 2017 I achieved 3rd place in the Fix Photo Festival Awards (harmony) and was also awarded Highlighted Photographer in the London Independent Photography exhibition, selected by Gemma Barnett of the Photographers Gallery, London.
