John Holben

For a long time, I’ve been interested in the apparently simple dilemma of taking one photograph over another. Or, more specifically, in the visual decisions that lead to the selection of a photographic composition. Like I imagine a lot of people, I often find myself composing pictures in my mind’s eye and building up a visual memory of the forms and views I see on a regular basis. For me, taking a photograph is an extension of this ongoing process of looking, and my interest lays in the expression of an idea or form with regards to the visual decisions involved.
