(Return) To The Sea

We’re pleased to share the news that we’ll be taking (RETURN) TO THE SEA to an exciting new location – The Seafront Gallery in Worthing, UK.

Why have we made a change? Weather conditions in St Gilles Croix de Vie were difficult through the winter and we had to take the TO THE SEA exhibition down for a short period due to heavy storms. The logistics of this, plus the probability of even worse weather this winter, makes it more of a worry. So, when we were invited to exhibit in Worthing, we knew this was a great opportunity for us all.

The exhibition was planned to show 24/7 at the outdoor exhibition site in the centre of St Gilles Croix de Vie, a wonderful town where we’ve shown exhibitions since 2018, first with Festival Pil’Ours and then year on year, with our current exhibition being TO THE SEA.

The TO THE SEA exhibition will remain up until at least October 2024 (longer if the weather allows) and we hope to be able to return to St Gilles Croix de Vie with another exhibition in the future, but our new plan for (RETURN) TO THE SEA offers an exciting opportunity for Shutter Hub and the photographers taking part.

At its new site, (RETURN) TO THE SEA will still run for a year and be open 24/7, in an area that receives over 200,000 visitors a month.

DEADLINE EXTENDED: The new deadline is 15 August 2024.

Due to the change of location, we will have access to a larger exhibition space, allowing us to open up the opportunity to more photographers and feature more images. For this reason, we have decided to extend the deadline.

The new exhibition location also means that we’ll be able to host a launch event there, and celebrate a new exhibition, and an exciting new location for Shutter Hub. We’ve received great support from the Adur-Worthing Councils and Trust, who are excited to host us and have us join their very welcoming creative community, and we hope it will be an accessible and enjoyable location for many of the photographers who get involved.

In 2023, we launched TO THE SEA, a year-long exhibition on the French coast celebrating all of our visions of the sea. The exhibition featured over 400 images by 120 photographers from around the world. The exhibition has been such a pleasure that we’re re-exploring the theme with our next exhibition: (RETURN) TO THE SEA.

You’re invited to submit your work and join us in celebrating the sea. The exhibition will encompass multiple interpretations of the sea – environmental, actual or emotional. This call is open to creative interpretation – take the theme and go with it, wherever the tide takes you.

An ode to the ocean, something for the sea.

We aim to showcase hundreds of images in this exhibition, and in the run up to the exhibition we’ll be sharing inspirational entries across our social media.

The exhibition will run from October 2024 – October 2025. (exact dates to be confirmed)

The deadline for (RETURN) TO THE SEA has been extended. The new deadline for entries is 15 August 2024 (5pm BST)

Each entrant can submit up to 12 images. These can be from a series or individual images.

Entry fees: £8 per image

Once you’ve entered there are no further fees – if your work is selected we’ll print, promote, deliver and install everything.
