FOOD STORIES – A Shutter Hub Editions Publication

© Karen Harvey

We’re inviting you to join us at the table and enter your images for our next Shutter Hub Editions book, FOOD STORIES.

Recipes without words, made from memories. From the simple fried egg to the Michelin-starred masterpiece, the grabbable snack or the family recipe passed on through generations, every meal has its place.

When it comes to sharing food stories, what stands out to you?

We’d love to see your food photographs. Serve them up, as straightforward or creative as they come. The ingredients are up to you and we welcome broad interpretations of the theme.

Shutter Hub Editions is the publishing house from Shutter Hub – creating a collection of printed publications for people who love photography. Our publications are held in many international collections including the British Library, the V&A, and the Portuguese Center of Photography.

The book will be available to buy worldwide, with several stockists across the UK.

We’re supporting this publication ourselves so that we can offer this opportunity at no cost to the photographers unless they wish to make a contribution. All we ask is that you send us your best work. We intend it to be a showcase for the photographers involved. We will promote it heavily across our networks, make it available to purchase in a variety of locations as well as directly from our online shop, and we will create a page on our website to allow people to connect directly with the photographers that are featured in the book as we do with all of our other publications.

100 images will be selected for inclusion in the book. You can enter single images or a short series of images, up to 6 images can be entered per photographer.

The publication will be perfect bound, portrait orientation 140gsm matte paper at 148 x 210mm with a 350gsm cover. The design, layout and editorial decisions will be at our discretion.

Deadline: 08 August 2024 (5pm UK time)

THE BRIEF

We’re inviting you to put your images forward for our forthcoming publication, FOOD STORIES.

HOW TO ENTER

All submitted files must be named with the photographer’s name and title of work as described in the specifications. Files that are not labelled correctly may not be accepted.

Please read the specification information below.

Deadline for entries: 08 August 2024 (5pm UK time)

Please do not leave your entry until the last minute, we cannot accept any late entries.

FEES & ENTRY

There are no set entry fees for FOOD STORIES, but if you would like to make a donation to help us to make this happen you are very welcome to do so as part of your entry.

Once you’ve entered there are no further fees to take part – we’ll design, promote and deliver the publication for you.

We’re making this opportunity affordable for all photographers, but it isn’t cheap to produce and we intend to recoup some of our costs with book sales. We receive no external grants or funding but we’re determined to do what we can to keep photography open to all. Unfortunately, this does mean we won’t be able to pay royalties or supply each entrant with a free copy, but we intend this to be a showcase for photographers and will promote the publication across our networks, making it available to purchase in a variety of locations as well as directly from our online shop, and create a page on our website to allow people to connect directly with the photographers that are featured in the book, as we’ve done with all our previous publications. Having considered many different possibilities and options we feel this is the fairest approach.

6 images can be entered per photographer.

If you’re not a Shutter Hub member but would like to benefit from all the other lovely stuff we offer, you can join here for just £87 per year.
