Following the success of our exhibition BORDERS earlier this year, Shutter Hub has been invited back to the Bridewell Theatre in October to curate an exhibition called Out of the Ordinary.
Out of the Ordinary will be displayed in the Bridewell Theatre Bar from October 2018 to January 2019. This will be the fourth time the Shutter Hub team have curated an exhibition at this magnificent building on Fleet Street.

There’s certainly nothing ordinary about the exhibition venue. Bridewell Theatre is a thriving Off-West End venue built over the City of London’s first swimming pool. The exhibition will take place in the charming and quirky theatre bar which was once a dark, damp, steamy laundry in Victorian times.
The exhibition will run from 16th October 2018 – 26th January 2019.
Something that is Out of the Ordinary is unexpected or uncommon. It could be curious or even freakish, edging towards the darkness or touching on the unreal. Out of the Ordinary might fill you with distrust or excitement; reasonable and unreasonable. For some it could be a daily challenge which bears a psychological impact. For others, it could be the most remarkable and exquisite thing.
We are calling on you to enlighten us with your interpretation of Out of the Ordinary. Can our perception of the unusual be challenged? Do we need to be reminded that something society has normalised is in fact extraordinary? Or should we simply marvel at something beautifully unusual?
We are calling on you to interpret the brief as widely as you possibly can.
The deadline for entries is Monday 24th September 2018. Entry is free for Shutter Hub members, £20 to non-members.

Emma Watson swam the English Channel to raise awareness of Endometriosis. Her swimming coach told her to always be ready for the call to swim. The Channel conditions were not safe enough for 3 months. Shutter Hub Project Manager Laura Ward took photos of Emma #waitingforthecall to swim.
