Anneleen Lindsay

Anneleen Lindsay is a professional freelance photographer, based in Edinburgh and working throughout the UK. Her photography focuses on creative storytelling portraiture, wild landscapes and the interplay between people and their environments. In her work she explores the timeless quality and endurance of nature and themes of solitude, feminism, representations of womanhood, psychogeography, the natural environment and land usage and ownership. The Romantic poets and Gothic literature of the Victorian era and the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelite movement influence her approach and aesthetic, which uses rich colours and spiritual and emotional symbolism. She photographs both real and imagined relationships between individuals and nature. In her more styled work, she uses locations, props and costumes to conjure scenes and invite the viewer to project a story or character on to the subject.

Anneleen was a winner in the British Journal of Photography’s ‘Portrait of Britain’ 2016 and the British Council’s ‘Shakespeare Lives in Photography’ competitions. Anneleen was also a runner up and finalist in 4 categories of the 11th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers. Her photograph ‘Caroline at the Back Door’ was included in the ‘Portrait of Britain’ book by the British Journal of Photography, published by Hoxton Mini Press in September 2018.

Anneleen’s work has been exhibited internationally in over 30 countries and has been featured in the New York Times, London Evening Standard, Mujer Hoy magazine, Feroce magazine and Amber magazine. She has had front covers on Benugo’s Espress magazine and Feroce fashion magazine.

Anneleen runs workshops and provides one-to-one mentoring in photography and creativity.
