We’re excited to announce the winners and highly commended photographers of the YEARBOOK 2023 awards!

Alamy YEARBOOK AWARD 2023

Selected by James Allsworth, Head of Content at Alamy, to receive Alamy Platinum Commission for 1 year and a one-to-one stock photography business development session with James.

Winner: Rachel Nixon

Highly commended: Dean Forbes

“It’s hard to fully articulate why I picked this image but I can say that it conjured up emotions of melancholy, nostalgia and appreciation of family history. I’m a huge admirer of historic images, and particularly the juxtaposition of old and new. The image joins the dots and demonstrates to us – with striking impact – the connections that link us to our past.”

Alamy is the world’s most diverse stock photography collection, they add around 150,000 images to their collection every day from thousands of photographers from across the world. Alamy supply images to customers globally, from magazine and book publishers to design agencies and marketers, they’re always looking for great imagery to enhance their projects.

Alamy work with over 100,000 photographers and aim to make it easy for you to work with them – it’s free to sign up, they don’t edit pictures on content and you retain full ownership of your photos. Since Alamy began, they’ve paid out over $200 million in royalties to photographers and the need for photography in our daily lives shows no signs of slowing.

GOST YEARBOOK AWARD 2023

One photographer will be selected by the team at GOST Books to receive a bundle of 10 GOST publications.

Winner: Madeleine Waller

Highly commended: Shannon Fisher

“In addition to the beautiful use of natural light and composition, we found Madeleine’s image intriguing – who is she and why is she holding the snake in the lake? When making books we always look for images which convey a story, and here we felt there was a story waiting to be told.”

GOST Books is an independent visual arts and photography publisher based in London. They pride themselves on an uncategorisable output of diverse subject matter and design: from a chronicle of seven men claiming to be the Messiah; a study of Turkish soap operas; art works inspired by the largest breeding grounds for flamingos in the Southern Hemisphere; archive photographs from the Mexico City police department; to portraits of winners of state-run competitions in Belarus.

Newspaper Club YEARBOOK AWARD 2023

Selected by Sarah Belfort from Newspaper Club to receive a £150 printing voucher for Newspaper Club.

Winner: Azim Khan Ronnie

Highly commended: Ewelina Dziedzic

“What a striking scene! First I was drawn to the colours, the textures and the mood – then totally mystified by what was happening in the image. It feels otherwordly but in fact shows the traditional process for drying incense in Vietnam, practiced for hundreds of years. I’ll never look at a stick of incense the same way again!”

Founded in 2010, Newspaper Club has printed over 22 million newspapers for some of the world’s most creative people and brands. All of their papers are either 100% recycled or sourced from sustainably grown forests and their printing press is powered by solar energy.

Winner: Christie Goldstein

Highly commended: Gary Williams

“When looking through all of the incredible photo submissions, ‘Butterfly Effect’ really struck me as an intimate moment in time, caught on camera. It’s not often we see a large, sometimes intimidating animal interacting with a gentle and delicate butterfly. The sunlight on the bear’s fur and the way the light is catching the butterfly’s wings is also a really nice touch. It’s a dreamy image and one that feels special right when you see it.”
