My portfolio review by far exceeded my expectations.  As a relative newcomer to the world of Fine Art Photography, there are still elements of self-doubt, but Karen immediately banished these and filled me with confidence that my work is valid.  She also gave me an incredible number of ideas of how to promote my work, one of which I executed that day leading to an immediate sale.  After our conversation and Karen’s infectious energy, I am now excited to really focus on my fine artwork and put in place some more of her suggestions.

The mentor session was fantastic. We had some great conversations and I’m feeling very motivated to carry out the action points discussed. As I am super new to the world of fine art photography, Karen’s insistence (and validation of my work so far) to get out of my own way, put more energy into the art side of things, and dive in is exactly what I needed to hear at this junction. I don’t think I could’ve landed in a more aligned photography community if I tried.

My first contact with Shutter Hub was at a portfolio review. I got great feedback with excellent expertise. When my photobook “Wild West” was released Shutter Hub did a tremendous job in promoting my work for which I am very thankful. They also offer great opportunities for members to exhibit their work. All in all, Shutter Hub is invaluable to anyone interested in photography.

During my portfolio review, Karen suggested new directions to my projects in – ones which I had never thought of, but really like – I feel inspired again and am going to research possible funding opportunities. I was nervous to do a portfolio review, but Karen really made me feel at ease. It opened my eyes to the benefits of sharing my work and has made me want to do it more often!

I found Karen to be incredibly supportive and interested, whilst still being realistic with regards to the current state of the market for dissemination of photography. As a result of my review, I’m now approaching a new market of smaller, zine-style magazine publishers as well as looking at sending some of my work to the libraries of the places I’ve visited during the project. I felt very positive about the experience as a whole – I came away from it with a renewed interest in my photography, primarily because of the positive feedback I received about the quality of my work.

My recent portfolio review with Karen Harvey was incredibly worthwhile. Her specific feedback on individual images challenged me to view my work objectively, while her overall project advice was invaluable. I especially appreciated her recognition of my strengths and her guidance on next steps and audience development. Leaving the session, I felt confident, equipped, and excited to move forward with my project.

My portfolio review with Karen was a great opportunity to discuss my work with someone who has fresh eyes and a fresh perspective. It was really enlightening, and we could have talked for ages. Karen’s compliments on my style of photography helped cast a shadow over the doubts I had in my ability. After her suggestion to move towards fine art prints, I’ve launched a business creating bespoke fine art prints for collectors – I’m really looking forward to seeing where it takes me.

Let me start by saying that the review was great and very inspiring. I think what most stood out about the review was chatting about publishing a book, something that I have wanted to do for a long time. Karen explained how to apply for publishing a book via Shutter Hub and it is something that I will do at the beginning of next year. It was lovely chatting with her and as I said, very inspirational – she gave me the nudge I needed to start choosing a project and photos that could be published as a book.

Karen is such a supportive and kind person. She gave me incredibly valuable advice, particularly about expanding my audience in a meaningful way – by connecting with people who are genuinely interested in the themes I work with, and by analysing the audiences of artists working in similar areas. She also shared an important perspective on submitting work to competitions – not necessarily with the goal of winning, but to make sure respected professionals in the field have the opportunity to see the work.

The portfolio review left me feeling very inspired, and I’ve already started considering how to apply these suggestions to my practice.

Karen’s spirit and passion for photography were truly inspiring. As it was my first portfolio review, I particularly appreciated her straightforward feedback, which was both refreshing and insightful. Following the advice, I am committed to pursuing my passion by shooting every day and actively engaging in networking opportunities.

The portfolio review experience was nothing short of amazing. It brought me joy and motivation, even leading to tears of happiness, as I felt profoundly encouraged by the process. I am grateful for Karen’s suggestions and am eager to embrace all the opportunities that come my way. Thank you for offering such an invaluable service.

I really appreciated the portfolio review with Karen, it gave me a lot to think about regarding my career and artistic practice in general, as well as the specific project we were focusing on in the discussion. I appreciated her questions about what I want to achieve more broadly, what I am getting out of the work I am currently doing and how to make it help me to get more of the work I ideally want to be doing in future.

Karen helped me to see things from a different perspective and that it isn’t selfish to spend time thinking about whether what I am spending my time on is what is the most important to me.
