The British Council is hosting Spirit of Nowruz: an exhibition of digital art and photography representing Nowruz celebrations in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
Nowruz is a thirteen day New Year celebration observed by many countries and communities around the world, including in the UK. It begins on the first day of spring in the solar calendar. In 2015, people all over the world will celebrate Nowruz on the 21st of March. The organisers say:
As part of our UK-Iran Season of Culture, The British Council is running this exciting new exhibition to celebrate modern Nowruz (often known as Persian New Year) festivities as they occur in communities across the world. The exhibition focuses on digital art and photography from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan and is curated by Haleh Anvari. It highlights how diverse and widespread this contemporary annual cultural festival is, and demonstrates its place of importance in the international calendar.
