Puffins are from the genus of birds Fratercula, or little brother in Latin refering to monastic robes. Old master paintings often deal with torture and dismemberment, as does Greek and Roman art, with their ubiquitous headless and armless statues. It is religious iconography that I found interesting here, and these heads are my own version of sacred relics, precious and fragile.
