The National Portrait Gallery houses a unique collection of all forms of portraiture of the people who have made or are currently contributing to British history and culture; the collection is the most comprehensive of its kind in the world. With around 2 million visitors each year prior to temporary closure for the Inspiring People project and a strong national and international presence through touring exhibitions and special projects, the Gallery is one of the country’s most important and popular galleries.
We are seeking a talented individual to join us in an exciting new role at a pivotal moment in the Gallery’s history as it develops its Inspiring People Project. This role is responsible for managing and growing our ecommerce offer to maximise profits for the Gallery and to enhance its reputation for excellence by delivering the highest possible standards of retail customer service, merchandise and online user experience. In addition, the role will be responsible for introducing additional new revenue streams for retail as the Gallery moves towards reopening in early 2023.
The successful candidate will possess demonstrable experience of staff management, product development and ecommerce, with a leading retailer. Demonstrable success in growing sales, promotions, and inventory control (EPOS) is also essential, as is the ability to set and achieve budgets and carry out financial and management reporting and analysis. A skilled manager, they will have led and motivated teams to meet budgets and deliver results through their excellent communication skills and strong commercial acumen. Experience of, or empathy with, the cultural and heritage sector is desirable.
