Talk: The Value of Blackness – Lina Iris Viktor in Conversation

Share

Curator Renée Mussai in conversation with Lina Iris Viktor, discussing the artist’s conceptual art practice combining photography, performance, painting and sculpture with ancient gilding techniques.

Over two years, they have been engaged in an ongoing conversation centred around Viktor’s idea of the ‘value of blackness’: as colour, as material and as socio-political consciousness. Their collaborative relationship has culminated in Viktor’s exhibition Some Are Born to Endless Night — Dark Matter at Autograph and accompanying publication. Join us as they explore the genesis of the exhibition and book, and key themes and influences in Viktor’s work – touching on creative agency, the psychology of colour, etymology, astrophysics, imbued symbolisms and cultural histories of the global African diaspora.
