The work of up-and-coming photography talent Tyler Mitchell (1995, USA) will grace Foam’s rooms in his very first solo exhibition I Can Make You Feel Good. The American photographer uses his work to draw attention to ideas about black masculinity, vulnerability and freedom. On Friday 19 April, Mitchell talks extensively about his work, in which he photographs young black people against a palette of bright colours, in the openness of nature or against idyllic painted backgrounds. In his black utopia, the youngsters seem free, relaxed, sensitive and proud.
Mitchell writes history at a young age; he is the first black photographer in the 126-year existence of the American Vogue to shoot the cover of the magazine, with a photo gracing Beyoncé. I Can Make You Feel Good shows a selection of photos from Mitchell’s personal work, commissioned work and two video works that will premiere at Foam. The exhibition opens on Thursday 18 April in the presence of the artist and remains on show until 5 June 2019. You are welcome from 17.30 hrs onwards.
Location: Foam Fotografiemuseum, Keizersgracht 609, 1017 DS Amsterdam, Netherlands.
