Professional development is essential to us at Shutter Hub and we want to enable our members to learn from experts in their field. Following the hugely successful Professional Development Day at Bermondsey Project Space in 2019 we are now delivering an accessible Professional Development Series online and we’d like you to join us!

The sessions are for all photographers who want to take their profession further and learn in a friendly environment, whatever level you are currently at. We want you to come away having learnt something that will benefit you in your career, help you feel inspired and empowered.

Each session is one hour long and we’ll vary the days and times they are held to allow people with different schedules more chance to attend. There is one speaker per session and the sessions aren’t recorded so you will have to attend to hear the talk and ask questions – we want this to be as similar as possible to attending one of our actual events, the most benefit is gained from being present, and we feel this leads to more open and honest discussion. The sessions are free but donations are welcome.

On Wednesday 23 and Friday 25 June 2021 we are pleased to welcome Solli Kanani, food photographer and BenQ AQCOLOR Expert, for a two-part mini course on mastering photography skills and lessons from her journey to becoming a professional photographer.

A photographic journey – personal experiences and techniques for visual storytelling – Solli Kanani

Session 1, Wednesday 23 June: Solli will be discussing her tried and tested techniques for getting the most out of her photoshoots. In particular, she will go over the basics of a shoot setup, her favourite equipment and props, as well as some top tips on composition and how to bring your photos to life through storytelling.

Session 2, Friday 25 June: Solli will share her personal and exciting journey in photography, the challenges and experiences she’s faced and how she has come to work with the clients she does today, including Michelin-starred and award-winning chefs. Solli works closely with the photography monitor brand BenQ and is now a BenQ AQCOLOR Expert. Discussing great opportunities like this and the importance of using the right monitor in your photography workflow means you will be sure to come away from these sessions with something new to think about for your creative storytelling.

Solli Kanani is a professional food photographer based in Paris. When she is not travelling the world to find inspiration, she is working for restaurants and hotels capturing plates of Michelin-starred and award-winning chefs. She was shortlisted in the prestigious Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2020 and 2021. Solli is a Nikon partner and an Ambassador for DXO Labs, an X-Rite Photo Coloratti and BenQ AQCOLOR Expert.
